About
I've never been involved in a profession that did not involve scissors. I was a professional costumer out of college, and for the last 8 years I have worked in a hair salon.
My style ranges from everyday streetwear to urban high fashion to vintage styles. I have dubbed my current short style trend "Post Apocalyptic Summer in New York" (aka Mental Patient Chic). I'm about going to work and having a blast...connecting with various personalities as they sit in my chair...creating functional art by cutting things off people's heads...and being absolutely amazing at color.
I am currently employed at Phia Salon in the Short North. It's pretty much the best team of people I have ever worked with, and it would be hysterical to see them on tv because you're either reaaaaaaaaaaaally one of us (in that early 20th century classic film 'Freaks' kind of way) or you're reaaaaaaally not. We're a higher end salon in a trendy neighborhood without a snotty attitude. We do lots of events, like open as an art gallery for gallery hop (this next one we're all wearing bridesmaid's dresses and doing Karaoke!) we donate makeovers to charity organizations, and we recently just finished working with the CW network for the Columbus Model Quest (where some of the pictures come from)
My out-of-salon photography work consists mainly as a hairstylist and model with the Dolls of Evolved. I'm the coppery redhead, and all the other pics are girls I've either done the cut, the color, styled the hair for the shoot, or a combination of all three.
Part of what I love about this biz is the fact that I have pin ups that I work with as well as frat boys, soccer moms, lawyers, doctors, rock n roll bands, trekkies, piercers, university professors, and politicians. I LOVE what I do, and I would love to represent this industry and show the world that we are artists, chemists, architects, psychiatrists, diplomats, and microbiologists, all rolled into one package.
Consequently, I tend to voice my disapproval (diplomatically, of course) of those in the profession who are as dumb as rocks. I don't care if we are hair stylists; learn how to spell correctly! Talk about something other than Brangelina! Know the difference between Washington DC and Washington state! (true story)
(Personally, I think it would be hysterical to switch with a barber doing high and tights on an army base...or a Texas salon doing pageant hair...an uber conservative salon on Capitol Hill...all the complete opposite of me but sounds interesting!)
