XANADU is an adapted stage musical from the 1980 Universal film starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. XANADU follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Clio, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to California on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest creation of all time — the first ROLLER DISCO...hey, it's 1980. The film was written by Richard Danus and Marc Rubel, and directed by Robert Greenwald. The stage version of Xanadu utilizes songs from the film, which were written by John Farrar and Jeff Lynne (of ELO).

Please note: All must be strong singers/actors/dancers with great comedic timing, and must demonstrate at least basic proficiency on roller skates with potential to learn tricks.

Terpsicore:
20s-30s, African American male. In excellent shape. The Muse of Dance. Also plays a Siren, 80s Singer, Hermes, Centaur and sings offstage. Must be a strong singer/ actor/ dancer with great comedic timing. Vocal Style: 80’s pop. Tenor to a B with strong falsetto to a high D. Must be an excellent tap dancer for a demanding tap solo. FEATURED ENSEMBLE. Possibly understudies Sonny, Melpomene and Calliope.

Sonny Cover / Off Stage Singer / Male Swing:
20s-30s. Covers all ensemble rolls and pit singers. Vocal style: 80’s pop. Soaring pop/rock tenor to a B with strong falsetto to a D. Possibly an excellent tap dancer for a demanding tap solo. Understudies Sonny.

Kira Cover / Off Stage Singer / Female Swing:
20s-30s. Covers all ensemble rolls and pit singers. Vocal Style: 80’s pop. Smooth, sexy low voice down to an Ab, effortless belt/ pop mix up to an F. Understudies Kira.

Melpomene & Calliope Understudy / Female Swing:
20s-30s. Any ethnicity. Melpomene: The Muse of Tragedy. The oldest of the sister muses, she is insanely jealous of Clio, and plots her downfall. She has rage issues as big as her hair. (Also plays Medusa.) Calliope: The Muse of Epic Poems. Partners with Melpomene to bring about Clio’s downfall. (Also plays Aphrodite). Vocal Style: 80’s pop. Strong belt/mix (low G to D).

Male Swing:
20s-30s. Any ethnicity. Covers all ensemble rolls and pit singers. Vocal Style: 80’s pop. Effortless high pop tenor to at least an A with a strong falsetto above that. . Must be an excellent tap dancer for a demanding tap solo.
