Casting for Florida Musicals

The New Vista Theatre Company (Boca Raton, FL) is casting Enter Laughing (based on the novel by Carl Reiner. Stan Daniels, music & lyrics; Joseph Stein, writer. Rehearsals begin Oct. 22; runs Nov. 20-Dec. 7) and The Producers (Mel Brooks, music & lyrics; Mel Brooks & Thomas Meehan, book; Amy London, dir. (at auditions); Barbara Flaten, choreo. (at auditions). Rehearsals begin Dec. 22; runs Jan. 15-Feb. 8, 2009 with possible extension until Feb. 22). Avi Hoffman, prod. artistic admin.; Peter Librach, prod. dir.; Amy London, assoc. artistic dir.
Enter Laughing, the Musical—David Kolowitz: 20s, innocent New York Jewish kid, wants to become an actor but has no appreciable talent, must be a very strong singer/dancer/actor, must be able to carry the show; Marvin: David’s best friend; Mother: 50s, the quintessential Jewish mother; Father: 50s, Jewish father type; Mr. Foreman: 50s, Jewish, David’s boss at the machine shop, has a Yiddish accent; Wanda: 20s, David’s girlfriend, pretty; Miss B.: 30s, David’s fantasy date, a real sexpot; Harrison Marlow/Butler: 50s-60s, Marlow is a has-been actor with great dignity and a wonderful sense of comedy, runs an acting workshop for neophytes, doubles as an English Butler in Act II; Angela Marlow: mid-20s, Marlow’s daughter, very pretty, works in her father’s theatre, tries to teach David to act; Pike: stage manager at Marlow’s theatre; Ensemble: singer-dancers, many will take small acting parts.
The Producers—Franz Liebkind: crazy, wild-eyed immigrant; Roger De Bris: very flamboyant theatrical director; Carmen Ghia: thin, strange-looking man, Roger de Bris’ asst.; Ensemble: singer/dancers, many will take small acting parts. The following roles have been CAST; performers will be considered as possible replacements—Max Bialystock; Leo Bloom; Ulla.
