Assistant to Executive Director
Location: New York, NY Only open to members in: New York
Actors' Equity Association, AFL-CIO is seeking an energetic and motivated person to serve as Special Assistant to the Executive Director
The ideal candidate will provide key administrative and strategic support for the Executive Director of Actors' Equity Association, the progressive, dynamic labor union representing the 47,000 Actors and Stage Managers working in the professional theatre nationwide.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
•Schedule a wide array of activities and travel for busy Executive.
•Maintain collegial relationships with some 140 Equity staff working in four offices nationwide.
•Significantly and sensitively interact with theater industry leaders, union Executive Team, elected union leadership, star-level, and other performing artists at every level of success working in hundreds of theaters nationwide.
•Answer, facilitate, and respond to heavy telephone and e-mail traffic, coordinate meetings large and small, prepare correspondence, generate necessary meeting minutes and reports, conduct research via web, process special professional requests, and expertly handle of travel arrangements.
•Maintain cordial and collegial relationships with key leaders and staff of sister unions in the Arts, Entertainment & Media Industries, and broader Labor Movement.
•Serve as point person for Professionals and member team creating Equity's 100th Anniversary celebrations (1913-2013).
•Serve as point person for the Executive Director's contacts.
Requirements:
•Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•Superior interpersonal and administrative skills.
•Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
•Good computer skills, including Microsoft Word.
•Willingness to work extra hours and weekends when necessary.
•Proactive problem-solving "The Show Must Go On" attitude is valued.
•Experience in the Labor Movement and/or Theater a plus.
•Respect for confidentiality and discretion is a must.
•BA or equivalent degree in liberal arts or business preferred. Major or minors in theater, other performing arts, political science or labor studies a plus.
