Auditions are your opportunity to shine in front of a casting director. That being said, it’s important to do everything in your power to do the best that you can do. Here are a few pointers to keep in mind:
1) Always show up early and/or on time. Showing up late is typically received as a sign of disrespect.
2) Be sure to prepare any materials (a.k.a. sides) in advance so that you can get right into the audition and impress the casting direction with your preparation.
3) Make a point to bring a bottle of water to your auditions because it’s often needed before an audition, but can be an inconvenience to the casting directors if they have to get up and get one for you.
4) Make sure that you look your best. Your hair, makeup, and wardrobe should all look good and be appropriate for the role.
5) Unless the casting director extends his/her hand to greet you, don’t try to shake hands. Casting execs often see upwards of hundreds of people every day and many prefer avoiding the potential germs that everyone brings in.
6) Be polite to EVERYONE! The receptionist, the assistants, the casting directors, etc, all work together and often share stories with each other…. both positive and negative.
