Getting an Agent
Monday, December 24, 2007

There are over 250 agencies in Los Angeles, each with a varying number of agents. These agencies range from boutiques with just one or two agents to corporate agencies that might have upwards of hundreds of agents. It’s helpful to identify the agencies that work with talent with whom you can identify. Thereafter, you can begin to send your package of materials to these agents (and/or agencies) to introduce them to you and your skills. (That package should include your headshot, resume, and demo reel. You might also include any relevant press and/or media.)

Some classes, workshops, and panels in LA often invite agents to participate, so it’s also helpful to monitor these types of events where you might have the opportunity to meet/speak with an agent(s) in person.

Ultimately, it’s extremely important to find an agent(s) who believes in you and your abilities because you are entrusting your career to this individual(s).

It’s also important to understand that agents receive many submissions every single day, so you might not hear back right away and many of the responses might not be favorable. Given the social nature of Hollywood, any connections you might have to agents are always helpful. Friends who are actors, casting directors, and/or producers might be able to assistant with an introduction to an agent(s).
