What should my headshot look like?

So what should your headshots look like?

If you ask 5 different people, you’ll probably get 5 different answers. But, here are a few global rules of thumb:

1) COLOR COLOR COLOR…definitely make sure that your headshot is in color.

2) It’s important that the picture looks like you. Don’t play up or down any of your features so much that the picture doesn’t really look like you.

3) Do not zoom in or out too much.

4) Make sure your name is included on the front of your headshot.

5) Make sure that your resume and/or bio are stapled to the back of your headshot.

6) Make sure that your contact information is easily found on the back of your headshot.

If it’s a shot for acting in TV/Film/Theater, people often look for a simple headshot. However, if it’s a shot for hosting and/or commercials, it’s important to show some personality in the picture. To accomplish this, it’s often helpful to do a 3/4 length shot so that you can see more than just your face and to use an expression that reflects your personality.
