About
Old girl but young at heart ( only 55 so not that old really). Have been invovled in animal rescue since 2005. On the board of directiors of an animal rescue group. We are certified disaster volunteers and deploy with organizations to natural disasters and puppymill seizures. We also transport, mainly dogs and cats that are pulled from life threatening situations from pounds( animal control facilities) by other rescues. We pick them up transport them from the pounds to prearranged drop offs. The rescues groups place the animal in foster care and work tirelessly to find homes for the animal.I have been married for nearly 32 years and my husband constanly puts up with my cell phone calls from the road saying "David there's this dog".He says back to me with a sigh," How big is it and when is it coming". We have 5 dogs, 5 cats in the house and a pet goose that lives in his own house. All my dogs are rescues and have such incredible stories of survival. My goose is quite an conundrum he can be a nasty, biting chasing ,creature one day and then my best firend the next. He has the most beautiful blue eyes and the sharpest pinch. I have a nasty bruise on my arm right now from one of his less than congenial moments. I have 3 beautiful incredible daughters. 20, 24 & 34 yrs. My middle daughter lives at home and is attending university. My oldest daughter was a sled dog guide. We have always had animals everywhere. My daughters have had chickens hatch in their hands, had pet cows, rats, hedgehogs, rabbits, ducks through out their lives. All rescued animals. They grew up knowing how to help a cow give birth and knowing how to care for all these varied types of critters. Back to our rescue group, we met when volunteering in Mississippi and New Orleans after Katrina. We returned 5 or 6 times (lost count) to help out. We have been training and working hard at charitable incorporation of our rescue group. I am 55 and not a slender person and have a bad knee but I feel so dedicated to our cause I have along with our 3 other board members taken Techincal animal Rescue training (TAR). TAR is swift water rescue and low angle rope rescue all focused on saving animals. We spend a huge amount of our lives in this work eventhough it is volunteer and we all have other jobs and families and companion animals that we are constantly leaving to go another transport or training trip or deployment. We maintain our sense of humour and laugh a lot and make crazy jokes in the midst of some pretty difficult situations. We have slept in a tent trailer on the street in New Orleans as well as in tents at an energency rescue centre with 400 hundred dogs and a whole pile of cats too. The most poignant part is how much fun you can have while crying the most tears you've ever shed. We call the lost, discarded, abused animals starfish. It's related to a buddhist tale where the moral to the story is " It matters, it matters to each one". If you contact me I will explain the whole story.
