A new child is diagnosed with autism every 20 minutes. For all the children and families stricken by this disorder -- and all those who will be -- the time to act is now. Your contribution will fund research studies that will help find a cure. With your support, we will transform a community of heartbreak into a community of hope. Donate to Autism Speaks Autism Speaks, together with First Signs, the leader in early identification and intervention of children with developmental delays and disorders, and Florida State University, have announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind web-based video glossary to help parents and professionals learn more about the early warning signs of autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
The glossary, available to the public free of charge at www.autismspeaks.org, www.firstsigns.org, and firstwords.fsu.edu, contains more than a hundred video clips that illustrate both typical and atypical development.
AUTISM is a developmental, neurogical, medical disorder, which results in delays in cognition, lauguage, and socialization. In most children with AUTISM, sensory input and output is also affected.
AUTISM IS TREATABLE!!! Many children are actually RECOVERING! The average cost to adequately treat a child with AUTISM ranges from $20,000 - $60,000 per year. Unfortunately, insurance does not cover much of this cost. Therefore I'm driven to help my sons and other families out there be able to get treatments and the proper help they need. I'm here for you!
Learn the Signs
Autism Speaks' multi-year Ad Council public service advertising campaign stresses the importance of recognizing the early signs of autism and seeking early intervention services. Research now suggests that children as young as 1 year old can show signs of autism. The most important thing you can do as a parent or caregiver is to learn the early signs of autism and understand the typical developmental milestones your child should be reaching at different ages.
