It seems like just the other day I was watching Attack of the Show (and the gorgeous Olivia Munn) and I thought to myself, "Wow, I would LOVE to have a job like that."
A little bit about me! My name is Jesse, I’m currently 19 years old, and I was born and raised in Florida right next to the beach! The ocean is a big part of my life and I enjoy anything that has to do with it: surfing, scuba diving, skim boarding, life guarding… you name it. I’m also an artist of many different mediums, both traditional types and digital, and also photography. I love music, mostly of the ROCK persuasion, but since I’ve been living at school in Miami I’ve come to enjoy some other genres as well. I also love to read and have become sort of obsessed with the Dark Tower series by Stephen King (and the "Gunslinger Born" comics that are based on the series that are out right now! SUCH AMAZING COMICS!). I’m a sophomore in college right now down in warm Miami, planning to major in nursing, but pretty sure I’m going to change my mind and become a paramedic (I love emergency medicine!). Since I’ve been at college I’ve been spending the majority of my free time honing my gaming skills, because after attending one MLG event last year where I was able to host team Show 'em the Vayne on mainstage, I saw how amazing LAN events could be and I plan to be at every MLG event in 2008! My favorite genres of games are FPS, RTS, RPG, and puzzle games (I’m addicted to Tetris and Hexic). My favorite games of all time are definitely the Halo series, and then next is surely the Rainbow Six series (and all other Tom Clancy games). I also love all platforms, including PC, Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo consoles (especially the pre-wii consoles).
My older brother and his best friends were definitely the biggest influences on my love for video games. It’s because of them that I started playing video games in the first place, and since then they’ve been a huge part of my life. Way back from the days of Superman and Sprint on Atari, then moving on up to more classics on Nintendo and Super Nintendo (Duck Hunt! Mario Brothers! Ninja Gaiden! Street Fighter! Oh man…) to the always-addicting Sega Genesis (Sonic the Hedgehog!). We all know about the greatest classic games, so I’ll stop listing them. I guess what’s really important is the game that truly made me love video games on more than just a casual level: GoldenEye on the Nintendo 64. Everyone loves the Golden Gun! My favorite part was the DK mode, and setting 5 proximity mines on top of each other and laughing as my brothers walk past it. I’d say at that point, the only other game I’d spent more time on was Super Mario 64 (Must. Have. More. Stars!).
The next big step for me after that was Xbox Live. Before my discovery of xbl, gaming was something that I did with my brother, so I played more casually. Then, after making fun of my bro for playing Rainbow Six: 3 on xbl for 10 hours at a time, he finally made me sit down and try it. Holy moly. I was hooked. I made my first gamertag and I’ve had one ever since, and I also learned how easy, and fun, it was to spend entire days on Xbox live!
After that, gaming to me was less of a casual on-the-weekends kind of thing, and all of a sudden it was a community of people that shared my same interests, it was something that I needed to conquer and be great at, and it was something that started to define who I was as a person. I started to get involved in the community, hanging out at video game stores, dashing to Blockbuster to get Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow as soon as it came out, then waiting an hour in line to pick up Halo 2 at midnight and skipping the next day of school so I could play it.
Since then I’ve been getting involved in the community that is gaming, and watching as this world that was so small and stereotyped grow so much into something much more mainstream and commercial… and yes! Girls are a part of this community, too! It’s my love and passion for all things gaming that I think would make me a perfect for this opportunity, so vote for me and give me a chance!
