About
My name is Justin Meader, and I live for technology.
Growing up, a good friend of my step-dad, who I looked up to quite a lot, used to call me "Geekboy". No one calls me that any more. I'm glad.
I work for the Geek Squad, so I spend most of my time driving from house to house, saving people from unruly technology and educating the masses that a geek is a good thing to be.
I also get to drive around the Geekmobile, which makes the recipient of strange looks, random waving, and occasional unpleasant hand gestures from punk teenagers. I haven’t run over anyone with the car yet, but that’s mostly because Volkswagen Beetles have a really low clearance and I’m not sure I would make it over them so much as get stuck on top of them… I hope my boss never reads this!
I definitely keep up on all the latest gadgets, because hey – I need to know what to buy! I've worked for Best Buy as a company for 3 years, and I think I've somehow managed to spend more there than I've made.
Working around a bunch of complete geeks, too, has given me a keen prowess to argue and defend my point to a nerdy, saving throw failing death. I’m the guy who convinced all my friends to ditch AMD in their gaming machines for Intel processors. Trust me, they haven’t looked back.
I feel like I could be a very positive presence on G4, on any show really. While I definitely keep up with the internet and technology enough to help Olivia host “Attack of the Show” on Kevin’s “sick” days, video games are my real passion, and an opportunity to host a segment on X-Play from a place like E3 is really what I’d like to do! I always love seeing, hearing about, and playing the latest games, and I think I’d bring a unique outlook to the network as a whole. I think far too much time is spent in the videogame industry trying not to make enemies or offend people. Journalists – both TV and in print – seem to tend to sugar-coat their reviews a lot, often digging for something positive that just isn’t there. If a game sucks, I’ll make sure you know I think that. I know everyone puts a lot of effort into their games, but sometimes that just isn’t enough to save a title like “Jumper: Griffin’s Story”.
To say that I "play" videogames would be a gross understatement. I basically live videogames. I started gaming at age 5 with my first NES, and I never stopped. I currently own just about every major console on the market with the exception of a PS3 (which I will buy when it gets a decent exclusive title). I highly considered skipping my cousin's wedding to go to a Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament... what can I say? I'm pretty dedicated. Does that make me an awful person? Answer: yes.
What else should you know about me? Let’s see…
- My car's license plate says: "PWNAG3". I’m not sure if that makes me “l33t” or not, but for the sake of argument, let’s just say that it does.
- I've always wanted to get into tech or videogame journalism. In fact, I started my own gaming blog just as a hobby. You can check it out at: www.playerFIVE.com.
- Adam Sessler is my personal hero. He's not afraid to tell people how it is, which is a great thing coming from someone in the spotlight like him. I'm very much the same way, only not as cool... and I'm not on TV... I should work on that.
And I will end this with a plea to the Mighty G4 Casting Gods:
You have to help me get out of Maine... If the snow doesn't kill me, the bears surely will!
Note: I'm 22. This site can't do math... or it just goes by year, and not by month and date.
Another Note: I am currently working on an audition video, "A Day in the Life of a Total Geek", but it's not ready yet. I should have it up shortly!
